How To Make Your Pictures Look Professional

Have you ever wanted to start a beauty page, blog, or YouTube channel but those professional looking pictures and videos on everyone else's pages intimidate you because they are so perfect? Don't worry. Some of these inexpensive tips I am about to share with you come from some of the top beauty babes in the industry.

Everyone thinks they need a professional studio to make great videos and pictures but guess what? That is TOTALLY not the case at all. As it turns out, there are only TWO things you really need to take the perfect selfie or record a perfect video.

1. A nice background

2. Good lighting

Yep. Only two things. Believe it or not you don't need a fancy $5,000 camera to have "Instagram worthy" pictures either. Your iPhone will work just fine!

When I say a "nice" background, I don't mean an expensive one. I mean one that looks nice. Whether it is a plain white sheet or a glitter curtain from Amazon (those usually run around $20-$40 or so) anything that is easy on the eyes will work. Make sure all the wrinkles are ironed out to give a smooth, fluid appearance. The purpose of this is to make sure all the focus is on YOU! You don't need a backdrop stand either! The backdrop I use (linked below) was actually thumbtacked to the wall for a long time.

Another tip: if you are ever not near your backdrop and have the burning desire to take a selfie (you know you all have those), find the nearest window, get between the window and the curtain, yes I mean literally in the curtain, and snap away!

(picture taken in a hotel, yep you guessed it, in the curtain)

When it comes to lighting, this can be a bit more challenging than the backdrop. Personally, I use a DIVA Ring Light that I purchased from Ebay ($100).

I have seen ways to DIY ring lights but frankly I was too lazy and impatient for all that (oops). A ring light helps get you perfect lighting and can even go as far as helping to brighten your eyes and even out your complexion. I am also a HUGE fan of natural lighting. Some of my favorite pictures I have taken were shot standing in front of a window on a sunny day. Unfortunately, sometimes when it is cloudy outside or you need to film at night, natural lighting is not an option. If a ring light is not an option for you, no worries! Check out the selfie ring lights that Amazon has for your phone! Slide the light down over your camera and BAM! A mini ring light right there on your phone!

Looking at an Instagram account of someone who has 20k followers and always posts perfect pictures may seem intimidating, but don't worry. You can do it too! I hope these tips helped.

Catch ya next time, lovelies.
